Hello Fellow Traveler!
What happens when an architect gets tired of floor plans and starts chasing train timetables instead. You get this place.
I am an architect turned traveler who cares more about side streets than bucket lists. I remember the sound of a tram more than the name of a square. I notice peeling paint stairwells that echo and cafes where the chairs do not match but the coffee is right.
Awkward Traveler is where all of that ends up. What does a city feel like at seven in the morning when the trash truck passes. How much energy does it really take to climb that famous viewpoint after a long travel day. Was the postcard spot worth the crowd or did the quiet back street win.
Here you will find:
• Guides based on trips that actually happened
• Real numbers for money time and effort
• Photos from my own camera whenever possible
• Honest thoughts on places I would return to and places I would skip next time
You will not find:
• Every place described as amazing
• Text written just to impress search engines
• Generic advice that could fit any city on earth
I travel I take notes I come back and ask what was real what was exaggerated and what might actually help the next person. When I revisit a place or learn something new I update.
If you have ever come back from a trip wondering what really happened inside your head as much as on your camera roll this site is for that question.
